Expert Answers About VEZOTIL
Our veterinary experts have compiled the most frequently asked questions and prepared detailed answers to ensure safe and effective use of the drug.
VEZOTIL is an innovative veterinary drug for general anesthesia in cats and dogs, containing tiletamine hydrochloride and zolazepam hydrochloride in equal proportions (50+50 mg/ml). The drug provides safe and effective anesthesia for various veterinary procedures.
The drug is administered intramuscularly or intravenously. Dosage is calculated individually based on animal body weight and planned procedure. Intramuscularly: 10-15 mg/kg, intravenously: 5-10 mg/kg. Exact dosage is determined by a veterinarian based on clinical examination.
VEZOTIL dosage varies depending on animal species, body weight, and procedure type: for cats 10-12 mg/kg IM, for dogs 8-15 mg/kg IM. For intravenous administration, doses are halved. Do not exceed maximum dose of 15 mg/kg.
The drug is contraindicated in pregnant and lactating females, animals with severe heart failure, liver or kidney failure. Not recommended for animals under 3 months of age. Use with caution in elderly animals and those with concurrent diseases.
In rare cases possible: temporary ataxia (coordination impairment), increased salivation, nausea, respiratory depression. All side effects are reversible and resolve spontaneously as the drug is eliminated. If they occur, contact a veterinarian immediately.
Store in a dry, light-protected place at 2°C to 25°C. After opening the vial, use within 10 days when stored at 2°C to 8°C (refrigerated) and within 48 hours at room temperature. Keep out of reach of children and animals. Do not freeze. Check expiration date before each use.
The drug is developed and registered specifically for cats and dogs. Use for other animal species (rabbits, ferrets, birds) is possible only as prescribed by a veterinarian under strict supervision with dosage adjustment.
Anesthesia onset occurs 3-5 minutes after intravenous administration and 5-10 minutes after intramuscular injection. Anesthesia duration is 30-60 minutes depending on dose. Awakening occurs gradually over 2-4 hours. Full coordination recovery takes 6-8 hours.
Premedication is recommended to reduce stress and improve anesthesia quality. Typically atropine (0.02-0.04 mg/kg SC) is used 15-20 minutes before VEZOTIL administration to prevent excessive salivation and stabilize heart function.
Mixing VEZOTIL with other drugs in the same syringe is not recommended. If combined anesthesia is needed, drugs are administered separately. Compatibility with specific drugs should be verified with a veterinarian.
