This clinical case describes the successful use of VEZOTIL during complex abdominal surgery in a Labrador Retriever.

History

The patient was a seven-year-old male Labrador weighing 32 kg. He was admitted with signs of acute abdomen, including vomiting, anorexia and abdominal pain.

Diagnostics

• Marked gastric dilation with fluid accumulation
• Gastric volvulus
• Impaired circulation in the gastric wall

Preoperative stabilisation

• Gastric decompression with a tube
• Fluid therapy with lactated Ringer's solution
• Premedication with atropine at 0.03 mg/kg subcutaneously

Anaesthesia and outcome

VEZOTIL was administered intravenously at 8 mg/kg. Anaesthesia began within three minutes and cardiovascular parameters remained stable. Recovery was smooth, and the patient regained full coordination after surgery.
